How to Make Half Square Triangles using the 8 at a Time Method

This Half Square Triangle  (HST) method makes eight HST at a time.  This method is best for making large numbers of HST.

Preparation:

Download your FREE copy of the HST Cheat Sheet.  The cheat sheet includes a fabric cutting guide and step by step instructions.

Decide on the size of HST needed and cut the fabric as per the cheat sheet.

Steps to Make HST – 8 at a Time Method

To make Half Square Triangles (HST) via the 8 at a time method, follow these steps.

Step 1: Place two squares of fabric right sides together. Draw both diagonal lines across the top square.

Step 2: Sew a scant quarter inch seam to either side of both drawn diagonals.

Step 3: First cut along both drawn diagonal lines. Next cut in half horizontally then cut in half vertically.

Step 4:
Open the eight HST out and press the seams. Trim the HST to the size required (unfinished size).
