This Half Square Triangle (HST) method makes one HST at a time. This method is best for
- Small numbers of HST.
- Controlling the direction of the print on the fabric.
Preparation:
Determine the size of the Half Square Triangles (HST) needed e.g. a 2 1/2” unfinished (2” finished) HST.
Cut 2 squares of fabric to the unfinished size of the HST needed e.g. cut 2 - 2 ½” squares.
Steps to Make HST – 1 at a Time Method
To make one Half Square Triangles (HST) at a time, follow these steps.
Step 1: Place the two squares of fabric right sides together. Draw a diagonal line across the top square.

Step 2: Sew along the diagonal drawn line.

Step 3: Cut ¼” away from the drawn diagonal line cutting away the excess fabric.

Step 4: Open the HST out and press the seams.
