ABOUT THE PAPER PIECES

Our English Paper Piecing (EPP) Papers are crafted from recycled materials, honouring the tradition of early quilters who often used newspapers for their projects.

Made from 105gsm (grams per square meter) recycled paper, these papers are more substantial than standard copy paper, which is 80gsm, yet thinner than craft cardboard used for school projects, which is around 230gsm. The feel is more like elegant stationery.

These papers are reusable! If you’re glue basting, simply flip them over and glue the other side. Remember to apply the glue sparingly.

Concerned that they feel thinner than what you’re used to? Don’t worry—they’re durable and just take a little getting used to. Plus, they offer several advantages:

  • Their flexibility makes turning corners easier.
  • Lighter weight means less strain on your hands, especially as your blocks grow larger.
  • The thinner material creates a smaller fold of fabric around the shape, making it easier to take fewer threads while sewing, resulting in neater, smaller stitches.
